You see it everywhere.
On shirts, necklaces, bracelets.
Hell, you even see it on purses, and all over peoples myspaces.
The Same Goes for "Go Green"
Lately everybody is sporting the logo.
I'm Going To Be Completely Honest,
In General,
This Disgusts Me.
Now, Don't Get Me Wrong
I'm 100% Behind The Idea Of Peace,
Is There Anything Wrong With Being in A State of Harmony?
Is There Anything Wrong With Having An Absence of Hostility?
No. Not At All.
So Why Wouldn't I Be Alright With The Exploitation Of The Two?
Here's the thing,
I would be alright with it if the people buying and selling these products really stood behind the actual meaning.
By Definition:
Peace Pronunciation [pees] verb, peaced, peac·ing.
noun
1. the normal, nonwarring condition of a nation, group of nations, or the world.
2. an agreement or treaty between warring or antagonistic nations, groups, etc.
, to end hostilities and abstain from further fighting or antagonism
3. a state of mutual harmony between people or groups, esp.
in personal relations
4.
the normal freedom from civil commotion and violence of a community; public order and security
When you see a peace sign, what do you think of?
What comes to mind first?
When you see someone Put there two fingers up, what do you think?
When you come across peace signs on someone's Myspace page, is your first thought " they want to empower others with knowledge, skills, and resources, as well as directly engage in the peace building efforts around the globe" ?
Doubt It.
"Peace can also be a non-violent way of life. Peace is used to describe the cessation of violent conflict. Peace can mean a state of quiet or tranquility an absence of disturbance or agitation. Peace can also describe a relationship between any people characterized by respect, justice, and goodwill. Peace can describe calmness, serenity, and silence. This latter understanding of peace can also pertain to an individual's sense of himself or herself, as to be "at peace" with one's own mind.
"
Now, the peace symbol and "Go Green" appearing on every available chest, billboard and or blank space, would seem advantageous right? well, yes. I know that even though a good percentage of the corporations mass producing these items are doing so merely for profits, I must admit that this selfish utilization has brought a large awareness of the need for sustaining the worlds natural environments.
However, I still feel like "going green" is more of a fashion trend then a way of life.
If everyone who was displaying the aforementioned symbols actually demonstrated what they stood for, Then the possibility of this world becoming better, by any means, might possibly increase.
But I'm not counting on that happening anytime soon.
There are a slight few who I believe really do try to live accordingly with the "Green" way of life.
There are those who really do strive for peace.
As For Me, I associate peace with the understanding I have of myself. The Feeling Of Being "at peace" with My identity, physically, emotionally and mentally, And I Wear The Sign To exhibit that.
All I am saying is that I'm just sick of seeing these two things worn out as a trend and not taken seriously.
